Poverty Eradication Project in Bengkoka

Up until 2011, the district of Pitas which is located in the northern part of Sabah is considered the poorest area in Malaysia with a total Hardcore Poor Household Heads (KIRMT) of 2,381 people. Approximately 73 percent of the population in this district obtain their earnings via shifting cultivation.

The goals of this project are to:-

  1. Lower the overall poverty and nullify extreme poverty in the district of Pitas;
  2. Increase productivity of idle land and those that are unsuitable for other commercial plantings; and,
  3. Ensure the continuous supply of rubber and rubberwood.
